Tips to Use When Writing Your Nevada State Legislator

Writing a letter is an excellent way to communicate with your Nevada legislator. If you are unaware of your legislative district and/or legislative representative, use the CCEA website to assist you. At the CCEA website, click on the link for the 2007 Legislature. You will find a link to the Nevada Legislature (on the right side of the page) allowing you to connect to the legislative website. At the Nevada Legislature website, you will only need to provide your home address to immediately view the information concerning your legislative district and representative.

When writing your legislator, it may be helpful to remember that s/he is interested in your views as a constituent, so do try and personalize your letter. As an educator, you are in a key position to be able to inform your legislator about educational matters. Keep your letter short and express your viewpoints in a respectful manner.

In writing your letter:

  • Keep it short, one page or less;
  • Focus on a single issue;
  • List a legislative bill number, if applicable;
  • Tell your legislator what action you would like to see happen (i.e. to vote for a legislative bill or vote against a bill) and why you would like this action to be taken.

To contact your Nevada Assembly or Senate Member:

Address your envelope to:
The Honorable _________
Nevada Legislature
401 S. Carson Street
Carson City, NV 89701

Address your letter to:
Dear Assemblyman or Assemblywoman _______________: or
Dear Senator ____________________:

The following template letter can be personalized and used to introduce yourself to your legislative representative early in the legislative season. The following letter template is for an assemblyman/assemblywoman, but can be modified when being used to write your State Senator.
