About Barbara G. Edwards

Barbara G. Edwards was a greatly respected high school English teacher with the Clark County School District.  She is fondly remembered for her enthusiasm and dedication to the success of her students.  She served her community and was an abundantly effective role model for students as well as adults.

About the Scholarship

In memory of Barbara G. Edwards, $1,000 scholarship(s) is awarded each year to worthy student(s) graduating from the Clark County School District.  It is designed to pay for academic expenses at post-secondary institutions.  This scholarship is underwritten by corporate, organizational, and individual gifts.

Scholarship Guidelines

The applicant must be a senior enrolled in a Clark County School District high school.  Deadline for entry is March 1st of the year of application.  The winners will be notified by May 1st of that year and must accept or reject the scholarship by May 30th.

Application Process

All applicants for the scholarship must submit:

  • A Barbara G. Edwards Memorial Scholarship entry form.
  • An official transcript indicating current grade point average and class rank.  The transcript must be sealed and bear the official seal of the institution.
  • A letter of acceptance or confirmation of enrollment indicating degree program.
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation.  These letters can be from a teacher, counselor, employer, club sponsor, church official, coach, or community service leader.
  • A typed résumé stating educational background, extracurricular activities, hobbies, work experience, community involvement, and awards.
  • A short essay (no more than 200 words) about the career choice or course of study and why it has been chosen.
Scholarship Selection

The CCEA Community Foundation's Board of Directors will select the winners of the scholarship. Decisions are final.

Recipient Duties

The scholarship recipient must begin his/her program of study no later than the fall quarter/semester following high school graduation.  The recipient must provide to the Foundation the complete name and address of the institution to be attended, and the appropriate office/registrar to which the scholarship proceeds will be forwarded in the name of the recipient.

Other Conditions

The scholarship will only be awarded to a student who has been admitted to his/her chosen post-secondary institution.  The scholarship is not redeemable for cash and may not be used for expenses other than those payable to the institution of choice (i.e. tuition, housing, program supplies, etc.).

Entry Deadline

Entries must be completed and postmarked by March 1st of the application year.

Selected hard working Clark County School District seniors will be honored at the annual Awards Banquet in May as the recipients of the Barbara G. Edwards Memorial Scholarship.
