The CCEA Community Foundation expanded its community outreach in November 2007 by sponsoring READ TO ME. Read to Me promotes the love for reading through its family-friendly website and phone service where children can access stories anytime.
Children can listen to short storybooks over a free hotline. In addition to listening to the pre-recorded stories, www.ReadToMeLV.com has been set up to showcase the pre-recorded stories in a video format. The stories are "read" by local and national celebrities. Celebrities have been so enthusiastic about the program that they have graciously donated their time and talent to participate and read wonderful books.
The Henderson District Public Libraries office has been an incredible supporter of this program, assisting in the selection of storybooks and ensuring those books are available in the libraries for children to checkout.
A new lineup of storybooks is released on a quarterly basis. The lineup of books in the fourth phase includes:
- BOB performed by Terry Fator;
- Fancy Nancy by Comedian Rita Rudner;
- The Gum Chewing Rattler read by Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman;
- Excuse Me performed by Comedian extraordinaire Carrot Top;
- Granny McFanny read by star vocalist of The Scintas Chrissi Scinta;
- Bugtown Boogie read by entertainers Clint Holmes and Kelly Clinton;
- Ensonacion y el jardin de Suenos/Dreamygirls Field of Wishes narrated by author Jorge Betancourt Polanco;
- Mr Walrus and the Old School Bus read by Head Coach for UNLV's Men's Basketball Team Lon Kruger; and
- Anansi Goes to Lunch read by renowned storytellers Bobby and Sherry Norfolk.
Read to Me provides tools for both teachers and parents to help reinforce reading concepts and to help foster the love for reading.
Join us in promoting this wonderful reading program and watch children's faces light up with enjoyment and amusement.
