2009 Legislature Wraps Up

Nevada legislators spent the last days of the 120-day session debating and passing the last set of bills, some of them overriding the veto of Governor Gibbons, who set a new mark this year by vetoing more bills, and having more vetoes overridden, than any governor in state history.

Now that the legislative session has adjourned, you are probably wondering what impact the cuts to education funding will have on you.  We at CCEA remain confident we will be able to maintain ALL current levels of salary and benefits without any interruption, and possibly, without arbitration.  We’ve worked with the district to keep the current employment level the same, with 16 exceptions.  We are hopeful that we can place these remaining teachers in jobs without any loss of pay or benefits.

We will keep you posted, through our publication, The Monday Report, and this website, on the negotiations progress.  The next session is scheduled to take place June 8.
